Me, the Mother of the bride and Cake at the Elvetham Hotel Hook Hampshire
October 16, 2015
August 2014 was a special year full of bespoke wedding cake designs and super lovely clients to work with. One of my favourites was the lovely Jill. Jill met me at a wedding event at the Oakley Hall Hotel in Hampshire whwere we are proud to be their recommended wedding cake supplier. Jill really wanted to make a wedding cake for her daughter but needed a fair bit of guidance and trainging.. and that's where our journey together began!.
I worked with Jill throught the process. First teaching her how to cook some lovely sponges (Sharing my recipes and methods). Jill loved it so much that when I next saw her she had a freezer full of cake and a very happy and well fed family :)
We also had lessons together to teach Jill to level and fill her cakes, then ganache and cover in beautifully smooth fondant icing.
For the decoration I taught Jill how to make a number of sugarflowers, including, Roses, Peonies and Hydrangea along with ruffle techniques and cameo designs.
The day of the wedding arrived (At the stunning Elvetham Hotel in Hook, Hampshire )and it was pretty emotional delivering this towering 7 tier wedding cake! It had been a special project where over the last 7 months everything had finally come together and it would be the final step with Jill before we said our goodbyes. Almost every flower on the cake had been made by Jill. She cooked each and every tier and we covered them together and she placed the last flower on the cake and we stood back to admire our work. Whenever I told anyone I was working with the mother of the bride they all said I must be mad - but I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable experiences. Jill was the loveliest of ladies and we had a ball. The great thing about this job is that I get to meet and know and very often styay friends with my lovely clients. I will always have a soft spot for this particular cake and how it came to be xx
